Teeth Bonding: A Practical In-Office Solution

Teeth Bonding: A Practical In-Office Solution

Teeth Bonding: A Practical In-Office Solution

The application of composite resin material to the surface of a tooth to correct areas of decay and cosmetic irregularities is known as dental bonding. As the material hardens, it bonds with the surface of the tooth to form a natural-looking, durable filling or coating. Little planning or preparation is required. You’ll only need an anesthetic if the bonding process involves filling a cavity. To match the color of the resin to that of your natural teeth, your dentist will use a shade guide. Before the bonding material is applied, the tooth surface is roughened and prepared. After the malleable resin is applied, your dentist will shape and smooth it into the desired form. A special type of light is used to harden the material. As a final step, the area is trimmed and polished so that it blends in with the rest of the tooth.

8 Problems That Teeth Bonding Can Fix

  1. Chipped or fractured teeth
  2. Misshapen teeth
  3. Decayed teeth
  4. Discoloration
  5. Teeth that look too short
  6. Gaps between teeth
  7. Exposed tooth roots due to gum recession
  8. Amalgam filling replacement

Teeth Bonding Pros and Cons

Bonding teeth is inexpensive, and it’s a simple procedure for correcting cosmetic dental problems. Crowns and veneers often require the help of an off-site dental lab, but bonding can usually be accomplished in one visit to an affordable dental care practitioner. Anesthesia is rarely required, and less of your tooth’s enamel is removed in the process when compared to other restorations.

Although it does offer some degree of stain resistance, bonding material stains more easily than crowns. Composite resin used in bonding doesn’t last as long as crowns, veneers, or fillings, and it may break or chip. Bonding is often considered an excellent option for correcting small defects in teeth not subject to high bite pressure.

Care and Maintenance After Teeth Bonding Procedures

You can take care of your dental bonding simply by practicing great oral hygiene. Brush twice daily, and floss every day. Simple, affordable dental care can help you keep your bonded teeth in top condition for up to ten years. See your dentist regularly for routine exams and touch-ups.
